Someone on Capitol Hill clearly thought some festive editing on Wikipedia was in store this Halloween.
According to @congressedits, a Twitter account that tracks edits to Wikipedia articles made from the IP addresses of the United States Congress, someone edited Special Counsel Robert Mueller‘s Wikipedia page to say that he is “Donald Trump‘s worst nightmare ” earlier today.
The edit changed a portion of Mueller’s page describing his ancestry of “German, English and Scottish descent” to “Donald Trump’s worst nightmare.” As of Tuesday morning, the edit had been taken down.
CongressEdits has been following changes made to Wikipedia articles from IP addresses within the ranges assigned to the U.S. Congress since 2014. The changes don’t necessarily mean they were made by a member of Congress. Past edits have included editing the pages of conspiracy theories, James Bond, the band The Mountain Goats, Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer and others.
The change of Mueller’s page comes after the special counsel’s office unsealed two indictments and announced that one former member of Trump’s campaign lied to FBI investigators about his contacts with people who had connections to Russian government officials.
On Monday, Mueller’s team announced that former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and his business associate who worked on the campaign Rick Gates had been charged with multiple counts of money laundering, making false statements and “conspiracy against the United States.”
Hours later, the special counsel’s office unsealed a guilty plea by George Papadopoulos where he admitted that he lied to the FBI about his interactions with people who had “substantial connections to Russian government officials.”
According to court documents, Papadopoulos tried multiple times to arrange a meeting between the Trump campaign and Russia’s government.
