The blog post that exposed a toxic culture at Uber and culminated in the ousting of its founder and CEO will soon be brought to the big screen.
Independent production company Good Universe beat out three other bidders to make Disruptors, a film about former Uber engineer Susan Fowler, whose post “Reflecting on One Very, Very Strange Year at Uber,” exposed a culture of sexual harassment and backstabbing.
Good Universe hasn’t released many details about the film, but we do know it will be written by Hidden Figures screenwriter Allision Schroeder and produced by longtime Disney exec Kristin Burr, according to Deadline. The bid to win the film’s right was reported earlier this month, though it was unclear who was in the running.
In her post, Fowler wrote that she was besieged with sexual harassment messages from her manager during her first day on the team. She sent human resources several screenshots of inappropriate language directed toward her, but they made no attempt to accommodate her and punish the offender.
After Fowler published her article, Uber CEO Travis Kalanick hired former attorney general Eric Holder to open an investigation into reports of sexual harassment. The findings forced Uber to fire 20 employees and accept 47 recommendations for turning the company culture around. It also led to the outing of Kalanick and a swarm of other top execs.
In her first interview since publishing the blog post, Fowler told the New York Times she still doesn’t think Uber is committed to change.
