This mother and son duo is going viral for gettin’ down on the dance floor like nobody’s business. In the words of Bruno Mars’ tune “Uptown Funk,” the pair’s opening song, “Don’t believe them? Just watch.”
On Thursday, Myers Park High School in Charlotte, North Carolina, uploaded a Facebook video of guidance counselor Ginny Jenkins and her son Scott, an accountant by day and rapper by night, performing a “History of Dance” routine for the school’s annual talent show. According to NBC affiliate WCNC.com, the show benefitted the Susan G. Komen Foundation, making it a no-brainer for the natural-born dancers to compete.
In the video, less than five minutes long, the Jenkins family members delve from synchronized dances to dance-offs, jumping from the Carlton dance from the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and the “YMCA,” to “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” and the “Whip/Nae Nae.” Like any good high school talent show, the crowd is eating up the performance, whooping at the faculty member country line dancing.
The internet has taken a liking to the Jenkins family, too—since Thursday, the video has been shared more than 365,000 times and viewed more than 19 million times, possibly by families who see their own dynamics in Ginny and Scott’s goofy, fun-loving demeanors.
“What you saw on stage, that’s nothing out of the ordinary at all,” Scott told WCNC.com.
