Trump becomes first president to not win America’s Most Admired Man in first year

There are plenty of Americans who don’t like the way President Donald Trump does his job—but do people admire him?

Turns out, not as much as they admire former President Barack Obama. A Gallup poll released Wednesday named Obama and Hillary Clinton the Most Admired Man and Woman for 2017. Trump is one of only a few incumbent presidents who didn’t take the title, and he’s the only elected president to lose in his first year, Fortune reported.

It’s Obama’s tenth year in a row winning the title of Most Admired Man. He won for the first time in 2008 and then every year of his presidency. Clinton has been voted Most Admired Woman for 16 consecutive years, and with 22 total wins, has won the Gallup poll more than anyone else in history.

Trump joins Harry Truman, Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, and George W. Bush—all who lost the Gallup poll during at least one year of their presidency. Ford lost in his first year in office following Nixon’s resignation.

Gallup’s poll was conducted over the phone in early December with a random sample of 1,049 adults over the age of 18 living in the U.S. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points at a 95 percent confidence level, Fortune reported.

In his first year as president, Trump hasn’t fared too well in polls. His approval ratings have been notably low, and almost half of Americans said they thought he will be remembered as the worst president ever.
