It’s December, which means year-end lists from all of the streaming services are coming in fast and hot—and the latest is from YouTube. The company revealed its top 10 most-played music videos of 2017 Wednesday morning.
It ended up being a historic year for streaming music, with numbers soaring past anything the platform had seen previously. As Variety points out, the record for most-viewed YouTube video was held by Psy’s “Gangnam Style” for nearly five years. The South Korean rapper was unseated twice in 2017, though: first in July by Wiz Khalifa’s “See You Again” featuring Charlie Puth, and then again the following month by Luis Fonsi’s “Despacito” featuring Daddy Yankee, which is currently chilling in the number one spot with over 4.4 billion views. Considering “Despacito” was the first video to even break the 3 billion mark (just 204 days after it was released), the fact that it’s still climbing steadily is no small feat. In fact, the song was the top YouTube music video of the year in more than 50 countries worldwide.
